Society Activities

We pursue the Society’s aims through a range of activities in which all members can take part – monthly meetings (also open to the public); the work of three policy groups; other activities, including outings and social events (see our Events Programme page).

Wandsworth Society members are kept informed through this website, e-mail alerts (on request), updates at our monthly meetings, and a lively Newsletter (see Newsletter Archive, which includes the latest Newsletter as soon as it is published).

Our three policy groups each include some Society members with specialist expertise, but all members are invited to attend and, if they wish, contribute. The groups monitor local developments, major planning applications and transport initiatives and review other issues affecting the local environment. The groups also take the lead in getting wider discussions started, making representations, holding local planners to account, and arranging publicity, as and when appropriate.

The three policy groups are:

Lead: Philip Whyte (020 8874 4745)

Open Spaces
Lead: Bruce St Julian-Bown (020 8874 6966)

Roads and Transport
Lead: Harry Waddingham (020 8874 8784)

Our Events team, led by Valerie Taylor (020 8767 3814), organises our talks meetings and other events.

Society in the news: The March issue of the free magazine, South West Residents’ Journal (distributed through letter-boxes in Battersea, Balham, Clapham and Wandworth) had a feature article on the Wandsworth Society at pages 19-21. You can see the piece, including an interview with the Chairman, and photographs by Society members, here.
